Strawberry Time

Saturday turned out to be a great day. We spent time together as a family and then David has a charity poker tournament that he went to where he rubbed shoulders with a few Tennessee Titans.
But the start of our day wasn't super great. Chloe had her soccer game and during the first play of the game she was taken down by an opposing player. Yep, the girls were trying to steal the ball from each other when the other gal tripped Chloe and then stepped on her ankle bone with her cleat. Total accident, but this mama's heart was broken for her. She immediately started screaming...not really crying at first but a blood curling scream. EMS came over immediately and wanted to check her out and get some ice on it. She refused to move it, walk, or even get up. I thought it was broken at first. However, David saved the day with her and refused to coddle her too long (once he figured out that she was really okay). So, she was out the first half, but then came back in and scored the only goal in the whole second half, and the only goal period for her team. We were so proud of her for getting back in that game even though she was scared of getting hurt again. I could care less about how she played, it's the fact that she got back out there! Yay for Chloe.
Then we went to H&S strawberry farm and picked some strawberries for a while. It is a yearly tradition but oddly enough, it was David's first time coming with us. Usually it's a day time activity that we do when he is at work, but I really wanted him to experience it with us this year. We got lots of good strawberries, homemade strawberry cupcakes, and then came home and ate on strawberries for the rest of the weekend. I want to make jam, but I don't know how. Maybe I will google it soon.
Then that night, David headed to Franklin for a charity poker tournament put on by a friend's Chick-fil-A and someone else. There were 3 CFA owners there playing with him amongst the tons of other people. He had a blast and was able to meet, talk, and hang out with the kicker and punter for the Titans. He did really well and got down to the final 5 playing and then...one of the Titan's girlfriends took him down and took all his money. Haha!!!
All in all, the perfect Saturday family day. I love days like that!

Easter 2012

Today was a wonderful Sunday! We have done a great job, if I may say so myself, of keeping Easter all about Jesus this year. Chloe and Brody are really at the ages that they are soaking up the information we give them and that they hear elsewhere. So... focusing on what really matters in life has become of utmost importance. And that, dear friends, is JESUS!
That being said, we did celebrate the resurrection of Christ with Easter baskets this morning before we headed out to church. And then after church this evening, we had an amazing time with our small group by having Easter dinner and a huge egg hunt with them. It was awesome. 20 adults and 15 kids...We love this group of ours and truly consider them our extended family.

Easter baskets...kites, pillow pets, Barbie/Spiderman, sprinkler, beach towels, candy, and little goodies were what the kids had in their baskets

Video of Kids Re-Telling Easter Story

This video is of the kids telling the Easter story using the Resurrection Eggs I posted about previously.

Resurrection Eggs

I am so excited about these eggs that I HAVE no choice but to tell you ALL about them.

For the 12 days before Easter, you open one egg per day and read the little story and scripture that comes with it. It tells all about the meaning behind Easter and why we celebrate Easter, the hope that we have because of Jesus's death and resurrection, and it does so in a way that even engages my three year old son (who would most oftentimes rather be playing with his superheroes or dart guns). And the way I do it is I start out by letting them re-open the eggs that we already have done and they tell the story back to me (great way to review). And then whichever kid's turn it is gets to open the "new" egg.
So, without further ado, here they are:

We found these at Lifeway Bookstore!

The booklet explains everything perfectly for children!

Day 1: donkey - what Jesus rode in on to Jerusalem
Day 2: coins - the money Judas Iscariot accepted in exchange for Jesus
Day 3: cup - the wine that was passed during the Last Supper
Day 4: praying hands - when Jesus went to pray in the garden
Day 5: whip - Jesus was beaten and bruised
Day 6: crown of thorns - placed on Jesus's head to mock him
Day 7: cross made of nails - Jesus was nailed to the cross
Day 8: dice - the soldiers cast lots for Jesus's robe
Day 9: spear: the soldier's stuck a spear in Jesus's side while still on cross
Day 10: cloth - Joseph wrapped Jesus's body in cloths and placed him in tomb
Day 11: stone - was rolled in front of the tomb to seal it
Day 12: empty - JESUS IS RISEN!!!

We Went To The Zoo Zoo Zoo...

Yeah, been there, done that and totally forgot to post about it. We loaded up the van last week and took off to the Nashville Zoo for the day. We had lots of friends go with us making the total in our trip to 7 adults and 12 kids. Whew!!! It was organized chaos to say the least, and it was a WONDERFUL day! I think the coolest part was the new dinosaur exhibit that is there until mid-July. It was kind of like a little Jurassic Park. We loved it! Here are some pictures...

Chloe, Miguel, Aiden, and Brody checking out the Macaws

Really fuzzy picture of the monkey

Miguel looks like he is going to fall over the bridge...Eeek!

Anlee, Chloe and Joey in the meerkat tunnel

Brody really enjoyed the zoo this year!

See, told you he refused! Haha!!

Really wishing he could reach the viewfinder
