After 2 very long years and a separation by many many many miles I was finally able to see my little brother for the first time since October 2007. He is in the Army and has been stationed in Hawaii and deployed to Iraq hence the reason for the long time. But on Wednesday night he and his wife arrived at our house to spend a long weekend with us before leaving for their next duty station in Alabama.
So, on Thursday morning, we spent time getting re-aquainted and letting Jordan and Kim get to know Chloe and Brody. The kids pretty much immediately took to them. We went to Dunbar Cave to feed the ducks and walk up to the cave and then by Chick-fil-A for some lunch. Afterwards, they went to post to check it out while I stayed here and got in my running for the day. Later that night, we had an amazing dinner of ribeyes, grilled corn, sauteed zucchini and squash, and yeast rolls. While that was cooking though, Jordan managed to let Chloe fall out of the swing (ok, she let go of the chains and fell out on her own) so we had to give him a hard time about that. After that, she wouldn't let him push her on the swings anymore.
On Friday, we all headed down to Opry Mills to shop and have lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. That was really fun. They had never been so it was a cool experience and of course the two kiddos loved it. That night, we had our babysitter come to watch Chloe and Brody so that we could take Jordan and Kim out and have some time to just catch up and chat without the kids. We started it off at the winery doing some tastings and then had a great dinner at the Blackhorse. It was a great night!
Saturday was Brody's birthday party which was a ton of fun and will be blogged about in a seperate entry, but Jordan and Kim were able to meet some of our good friends and have some yummy Whitt's BBQ.
On Sunday we headed out to church. They loved our church as it's very similar to the one they went to in Hawaii. It was an amazing time of worshipping our Lord and opening our hearts and minds to Him. I think they saw how much and why we love Grace Community Church. Later that evening, we had to say goodbye to them and I would be lying if I said that I didn't shed a few tears after they pulled out of our driveway. Although they are just going to be a little over 2 hours away for the next 10 weeks, it was still hard to watch them go. Chloe has asked a thousand times where they are and when they are coming back. We are planning to go visit in late September and hopefully make another trip or two since they are going to be so close.
