I think it's official...

Chloe is NOT scared of the dark. Last night I was giving her night-night kisses and she looked up and said "sleep mama's bed." I told her that she had to sleep in her bed and she replied "it's dark." Then David came in the living room to get her for bed and she happily ran down the hall with him to her room and went straight to sleep. Then today for naptime, she went into her room and said "it's dark. mama's bed. please. thank you."

She has my number clearly.

Oh, and Brody spent his first night ever in his crib last night. I had to get him out of our room as he is such an old man. He snores, fidgets, and flails all night long (while he is sleeping) meaning that I get very little sleep since I am a light sleeper anyways. He did great in his room so that's where he will start staying every night!

Christmas in Clarksville

Just tons of pictures taken this morning. Christmas was so fun this year. Chloe sort of understood Santa, presents, etc... She at least knew something big was happening. She also liked unwrapping gifts this year (hers and Brody's), and playing all day long. After gifts, we just relaxed and played with the kids, cooked and ate. It was seriously such a great holiday.

Chloe's Madagascar movie from her Nannie

Rubber Duckies in her stocking. This child LOVES ducks.

I think a coat was in this box.

Helping Brody open his presents. Yes, that's his "practical gift" of the curtain rod and he got some curtains and monkey finials to go with it.

Baby Einstein teether.

Close-up

Chloe explaining to Brody about his new toy.

Of course he HAD to have his first UNC outfit!!! Basketball season has started. Thanks Aunt Kim and Uncle Jordan for his first Tarheel attire.

Cabot opening his gift - a new bed

Brody's new musical toy. He has laughed and squealed in delight everytime he sees and plays with this toy.

Chloe's main gift from Santa was this large playhouse. She has played in it off and on all day long.

Full view of the playhouse. Just FYI as to how big it is....Chloe, Brody, me, and the dog all fit inside it relatively comfortably.

She is getting the table ready for us to have our first pretend picnic.

Leaning out the window to ring the doorbell.

A new outfit from Santa. An "I love Mommy" outfit!!!

This is the neatest toy. It's a wooden Melissa and Doug toy cake that comes with candles and toppings that actually velcro on the cake slices so that they stay on. She and I pretended to eat cake quite a bit today. Here she is blowing out the candle.

Reading his new book

Chloe eating her cupcake in honor of Jesus's birthday. We sang Happy Birthday and this is how she sang it... Happy Birthday to Jesus, Happy Birthday to Jesus, Happy birthday dear Chloe, Happy birthday to Chloe. I think she forgot half-way through who's birthday it really was.

These are the lights that we went to see at the Riverfront on Christmas Eve. They were really pretty! This is the first year that we have been down there and gotten out to take the walk. We were pleasantly surprised!

This is one of my favorite pictures of Chloe and David.

Afraid of the dark???

I'm not really sure if this is what is going on with Chloe or not. Lately, she has become obssessed with light and dark. Each night around dusk, she will say "it's dark mama." And I'll respond that yes it is dark and that now we can look at the moon and stars. Usually this is as far as it goes, but last night I was thrown for a loop. I guess it actually started at naptime yesterday. I put her down for her nap and about 1 minute later, she was crying (which is not like her). I went back in and she said "sleep mama's bed." So, I let her as this is a very unusual request so I knew that something was up. She slept for 2 hours and she was fine. Then last night when I put her to bed, we went through our normal routine of talking about our day, singing a song, and then saying prayers. When I got up to leave, she said "it's dark...sleep in mama's bed." I told her that she had to stay in her bed and then we prayed about the dark. I also found a night-light and put it in her room. She was fine and slept the entire night just like always.
However, I am now scratching my head wondering if she is becoming afraid of the dark? If so, I wonder where this fear came from. Any ideas or suggestions from seasoned moms?

Pictures...

Here are just a few random pics that I took and thought were "post-worthy." ENJOY!!!

If he had suspenders on, he would look like an 80 year old man. However, I do love this outfit...and David picked it out!

This was the moon the other night when it was the closest it had been to earth all year.

Here is Chloe sleeping UNDER her bed once again. We check on her everynight before we go to bed and this is how we found her...sleeping soundly. David was able to pull her out and put her IN the bed without even waking her up.

Chloe loves snowglobes

Check This Out...

This was our perfect sunset this evening. The pictures were taken from our deck. Only God could create such a masterpiece as this. Isn't it beautiful?!?

And then just for fun...a picture of Brody. Chloe was laying beside him and they were "chatting" but as soon as she saw the camera, she jumped up and ran. Don't know what that was about because normally she LOVES a camera.

In My Mind I'm Going to Carolina....

OK - had to throw in those James Taylor lyrics in the title. Corny, I know, but hey, I love the state of North Carolina. As is so well said at UNC, "I'm a Tarheel born and a Tarheel bred, and when I die I'll be a Tarheel dead."

Last Friday, my family set out at 4:30 AM to the airport to head to North Carolina to visit my family. The flights were great although on the first leg of it, I just knew Chloe was going to get us kicked off the plane and on the 6:00 news. She was screaming because she didn't want to sit in the seat that we were assigned, and then the flight attendant came walking by and wanted to know what was wrong with her. It turned out okay though once we got going. Chloe waved and yelled "bye cars", and then yelled "hi clouds" once we were above them. She enjoyed the plane ride I think. Anyways, we made it to Atlanta then on to Raleigh just fine. Brody slept during the entire trip there so that was great!
Anyways, my dad picked us up at the airport and we headed home. My parents had not seen Brody since he was 2 weeks old so they were surprised at how big he had gotten despite his surgery and all of his earlier health issues. And of course they were surprised at how Chloe has grown in just 3 months and how much she talks and sings. Anyways, while we were there, we went to see an amazing light display in Winston-Salem at Tanglewood Park. I think I heard that it is the largest in the southeast. It was great! Chloe loved it and would point out all the different things. When she saw a star, she would sing Twinkle Twinkle, when she saw a bell, she started singing Jingle Bells, when she saw Santa, she started saying Ho Ho Ho, etc...
On Sunday, we went to the church I grew up in and enjoyed an amazing performance of a living Christmas Tree. Chloe loved it (while she was awake) and would sway back and forth to the songs she knew. After church my family went back to my parents' house and had a family lunch. My older brother and his wife were there with their 3 kids and my younger brother's wife was there too. It was so much fun to get to hang out with them and introduce them to Brody. It was also great that we got to meet our new niece, Emma. She and Brody are exactly 1 month apart. After lunch, we went to spend some more time with my brother and his family, my grandmother, and my aunt and uncle. It was just so fun to just get to spend time with everyone. My aunt and grandmother hadn't seen Chloe since last Christmas and they had never met Brody.
Then on Monday morning we packed up and headed back to the airport and back to Tennessee. The flights back were perfect, and the kids were also! I couldn't have asked them to be any better. They also settled back into routine fairly easily which shocked me since Chloe was on cookie overload from the weekend. She hasn't asked for one cookie since we got home so maybe she knows that those are special treats from the grandparents. Well, actually, she did sort of ask but didn't dwell on it. I picked up some stuff to make Christmas cookies to send to Iraq for Jordan and our "adopted soldier." I asked Chloe if she wanted to help me make cookies for Uncle Jordan and she responded by saying "no Jor-Jor, no Jor-Jor...Chloe's cookies." I just let it go and did the cookies after she went to bed last night.

All in all, a perfect trip to NC. The only thing that would have completed the trip to NC for me would have been to have Jordan there with everyone.

Hilarious...

So I have finally been able to stop laughing long enough to make this post. Tonight, Chloe and I were laying together on one end of our couch and David was sitting on the other end. She was pointing to her nose saying "Chloe's nose," then would point to mine and say "mama's nose," then point to David's and...well, you get the point. Then she looked up my nose and said, "it's dark in there." BUT...here's the funniest part of the whole thing. Then, she decided to move on to hair. Chloe grabs her hair, says "Chloe's hair," grabs my hair and says "mama's hair," then she looked at David and said "daddy's hair, where are you?!?"
Oh my goodness, I am back to laughing hysterically as I type this. It was the funniest thing to me and her. He didn't laugh nearly as much. I hope to always remember her asking that and being so serious about it!

The Man in Blue...(and more)

Busy, busy, busy!!! We are leaving for NC tomorrow morning to go visit my family. We have to be at the airport no later than 5:15 AM so that we can get everyone checked in and through security. So today, I am stuck with the daunting task of packing everything that we need. Ummm, that's a lot when you have a toddler and an infant. I have been thinking about strategy at the airport though and have got it all down to a science and even wrote a list of what goes in who's carry-on and who is to carry which carry-on. Yep, I am a bit crazy when it comes to making lists. You see, we are trying to only check what's necessary since it costs now to have luggage on a plane (rolling eyes!)
So, anyways, on to the rest of my day's plans...I left at 8:50 to take Chloe to school this morning. On the way, we were singing and I totally was not paying attention to the speed that I was going. Well, the man in blue was paying attention and made me quite aware of the speed limit on Trough Springs Rd. When I pulled over, Chloe says "aw man!" I rolled my window down and cracked hers thinking that if he maybe saw how cute she was that he would have mercy on me. IT WORKED!!! He commented that he was very proud that I had both children in their carseats (duh!) and that I was a great mom for doing that. Then, he wrote me a warning ticket and I went about my way...only going 30 mph mind you.
So, for the rest of my day, I will be packing, getting a haircut, packing some more, going to pick up Chloe at school, exchanging something at Target, getting prescriptions at Walgreens, making sure everyone is fed and changed (well the kids at least), packing some more, and hopefully will be in bed at a decent hour tonight so that 3:45 doesn't come too early.
Whew...I'm tired just thinking about it. So, I have no idea why I am taking the time to write this other than to just have one last moment of solitude before the craziness ensues.
